November is a massive month for new and returning drama series, including the arrival of Season 4 of romantic time-travel drama Outlander, adrenalin-fuelled Bulletproof, and Ray Donovan, which stars Liev Schreiber as the “fixer” for Hollywood’s elite.
Stephen King’s psychological-horror series, Castle Rock, will provide the chills and thrills, with My Brilliant Friend – the eagerly awaited adaption of Elena Ferrante’s internationally bestselling novel of the same name – providing the drama and emotion.
Season four of Outlander continues the story of time-traveling 1960’s doctor Claire Fraser and her 18th century Highlander husband Jamie Fraser as they try to make a home for themselves in the rough and dangerous ‘New World’ of colonial America. Meanwhile, in the 20th century, Claire and Jamie’s daughter Brianna Randall and historian Roger Wakefield search for proof that her parents found each other in the past.
Outlander Season 4 premieres same day as the US on Mondays at 6.30pm AEDT, exclusively on Foxtel
Dive deep undercover and venture out onto the streets of London with Noel Clarke and Ashley Walters in a cinematic crime series that mixes drama, action and comedy to deliver a distinctive and dynamic new take on the police buddy genre. Adrenalin-fuelled and packed with compelling characters, Bulletproof follows two undercover cops, Bishop and Pike as they chase down hardened criminals in London’s East End. On the surface Bishop and Pike have a lot in common, they are cool, smart and unapologetically street-wise and tough. But even more, they share a deep, fraternal relationship and are always there for each other.
However, they come from very different backgrounds and their personal motivations and emotional lives outside the police force differ as a result. Pike is an aspirational family man, the son of a decorated police officer who is determined to follow in his father’s footsteps, but not be in his shadow. Meanwhile, Bishop grew up in care homes and on the streets, and never knew his father. Despite these differences Bishop and Pike are bonded by the same moral code and work brilliantly well together even when the chemistry between them looks set to explode.
Bulletproof starts Wednesday 7 November, exclusively on Foxtel
As season six begins, we find Ray rebuilding his life both personally and professionally in New York City. After being rescued from a plummet into the East River, his saviour, a cop named Mac, brings Ray into the fraternity that is the Staten Island Police Department.
While exploring this new world of brotherhood and corruption, Ray finds himself once again working for media mogul Sam Winslow. Sam has teamed up with New York City mayoral candidate Anita Novak, a partnership that puts Ray at odds with his new friends out in Staten Island.
Ray Donovan starts Wednesday November 7 at 9:30pm AEDT, express for the US and exclusively on Foxtel
Castle Rock takes viewers into the chilling world of acclaimed best-selling author Stephen King in this psychological horror series from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland.
Castle Rock premieres with a double episode Monday November 12 at 8:30pm, with all episodes dropping at once On Demand. Exclusively on Foxtel.
HBO’s first foreign-language series, My Brilliant Friend, tells the story of Elena Greco, a now-elderly woman who discovers the most important friend in her life, Raffaella “Lila” Cerullo, seems to have disappeared without a trace. A writer, immersed in a house full of books, Greco turns on her computer and starts writing the story of their tempestuous friendship, starting from the point when Elena met Lila their first year of primary school in 1950.
Set in a dangerous and fascinating Naples, their story goes on to cover more than 60 years of their lives as she tries to describe the mystery of Lila, Elena’s brilliant friend and — in a way — her best friend, and worst enemy.
My Brilliant Friend premieres Tuesday November 20 at 7:30pm AEDT, exclusively on Foxtel
